When I was approached with the opportunity to purchase the iconic Bay Wolf restaurant building on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, I knew there was a special legacy to be continued at the site. All of the best ingredients fell into place to make this project succeed. To accompany, the great location, the magical legacy of Bay Wolf, the intimate covered patio, and ample back yard, my recipe included: a great partner, intelligent architect, meticulous builder, and gregarious and graceful Rich and Rebekah Wood, husband and wife team behind Wood Tavern. Together with their partner and amazing chef Yang Peng, Rich and Rebekah opened The Wolf. There were so many elements to this deal that made it so “right,” and the collaboration between landlord and tenant was with the sense of harmony and compatibility that reminds me why I enjoy this type of project so much.
